Two former strangers meeting at woome.com come up with a crazy idea. Embark on a cross country trip to meet the hundreds of cool users they WOO’d on WooMe face to face and extend online relationships to offline friendships, couch surfing and doing some good across the country, all along the way. Two men, 15 major cities, 8 pockets full of cash, four thousand miles of road and one mission. WOO around America! More...
Ah, so many mixed feelings about coming back to the City of Angels. Some pleasant, some not so pleasant, but coming back home was something that was knew we would have to do from the very beginning of our journey. Fortunately for us though, there was a welcome wagon waiting for us when we arrived.
So we made it home safe! Suprisingly, neither of us got any speeding tickets over the 5,000+ miles we drove during the trip. Tuesday afternoon we dropped the Ford Escape and caught a short flight back to Los Angeles. With all the driving, I grew somewhat attached to the mid sized SUV. So much so that now I’m back in my tiny Civic, I feel like I’m driving a go-cart! More…
We took the free city bus into the LoDo district where we traveled to Double Daughters— the equivalent to walking into a Tim Burton movie, on acid. We sampled the drink called “Go fuck yourself”, which is a family recipe that can be best explain as a 17-alcohol concoction that will shake your insides inside out.
We made friends, ate street-side burritos, educated bums on marketing techniques, and oh yeah, sucked a lifesaver off a random lady.
The night ended with me getting lost. Great night in Denver… on our way back West.
This trip so far has been above average… I would definitely give it to A- on the grounds of doing what we set out to do… and that’s WOO the glorious United States of America. We proved that it is possible to make create real friendships and camaraderie through a site like WooMe.
TheOysta and I have decided to re-route our trip back to California, and have plans to start a weekly entitled “Rdot + Oysta TV” as a way to continue the spirit of the trip until we can manage to WOO the east coast in the fall. Because Oysta plans to move New York by the end of the Summer, I am hoping to do a mini-roadtrip up to New York in the upcoming months. Of course, I would have to meet up with him in some random shady drug-dealer infested New York alleyway.
The mantra of the trip was to “do it big!” and I’d like to maintain that mentality in my everyday life. I am reminded of a discussion I had with Marrena when i was in San Diego when I told her “In order to be big you have to BE big!”.
So what happens next? We head back to California to plot our next moves, any ideas regarding any idea that was idealically indealified would be appreciated.
